This small community of Georgia is still reeling after a devastating accident left a 9-year-old girl dead. This incident has left a family and a community heartbroken.
The incident occurred on Friday evening in Woodbine. Jordyn Butler has been described as a happy-go-lucky and loving person full of light. She got hit by an SUV while attempting to cross the street near IGA. Emergency services quickly responded to the scene and took her to the nearest hospital, where she unfortunately passed away.
People who knew Jordyn describe that she possessed an extraordinary spirit that made others feel loved and acknowledged. She had an infectious laugh and touched others with her kindness that would be remembered for years to come. Her sister, Alexis White, believes that this loss may be one that the community never heals from.
“She spoke her mind,” Alexis continued. “She loved God, she loved people, and she prayed for everyone. She had such a big heart.”
The evening of the accident, Jordyn was enjoying what many children love, which was playing with her brother and friends in the neighborhood. However, when she realized it was time to go home, she tried to make her way across the road when she was hit by an oncoming vehicle.
Jordyn’s 13-year-old brother, Jayden Butler, witnessed the incident. Since the night of the incident, he has been having a tough time dealing with what happened. According to him, the incident keeps on replaying itself in his head, especially at night, thus preventing him from sleeping.
“It’s like I keep thinking that I could have stopped it,” Jayden revealed. “It just keeps going over and over in my head.”
The family states they are devastated by what has happened but are choosing to make their voices heard in hopes of preventing another family from going through what they are experiencing.
By sharing the family’s tragic story, they hope to make motorists aware of the need to slow down and be alert, particularly in areas where kids are known to congregate.
“Please be aware of other people’s infants,” Alexis urged. “Kids are kids. They should be protected.”

Jordyn’s life, although all too brief, made a strong impact – and it is the hope of the family that this impact can lead to more care and awareness on our roads.
