A struggling single father made a desperate choice – one driven not by selfishness, but by love. Caught shoplifting baby formula while out shopping with his six-month-old baby, he couldn’t afford to feed his child.
When Officer Justin Roby arrived, he did not see a case of shoplifting;

he saw a dad who was doing everything he could to take care of his baby. Instead of an arrest, Roby opted for compassion. He pulled out his own wallet and bought several cans of formula so the baby would not go hungry.
He didn’t stop there. Roby also took time with the father to discuss some local community programs, including resources within the police department, that could help him get the support he needs.
“Behind the uniform, I’m a human being,” Officer Roby said. “I’m part of this community, too. And I have a little boy of my own.”
