Colts corner Charvarius Ward is shedding light on what it’s been like after losing his 1-year-old daughter, Amani Joy. Recently, he spoke about not truly being happy since losing Amani a year ago.
Amani would have turned three on this day, and he took Instagram to share very emotive posts. “Happy heavenly birthday AMANI. Haven’t been happy since you left us,” he mournfully wrote. There was also a message where he explained how he has struggled with the loss of his daughter. “Forget football, money, and fame. I’m lost without my baby,” he posted with broken heart emoticons on an image of Amani seated on his shoulder. There were also images of cupcakes with balloons and a ‘3’ candle.
Ward and his fiancée, Anissa Cook, have some bittersweet news as well. The couple announced in July that they were engaged and are expecting a baby boy due February 2025.
Looking back on Amani’s life, Ward once said that Amani has been and will “always be our biggest blessing.” He recalled that Amani was and would “always be happy, be strong, and make every room she entered lighter and brighter.” “Being her parents changed our lives,” he said, “and she will forever be daddy’s best friend and mommy’s little girl.”
Even months after her death, Ward has been very open about the effects it has had on his mental well-being. “I have PTSD. I wake up sick at 3 o’clock in the morning because I have a sick daughter,” he said. It’s clear that he still struggles with adjusting to life without her.
However, amidst these challenges, Ward will be going back to action. He will be eligible to return from the injured reserve due to a concussion he suffered from an accident before a game.
By posting on social media and giving interviews, Ward has offered a raw and honest perspective on not only the pain but also the happiness that he experiences as he awaits the arrival of a new life within his family with the birth of a new child.
