He found her a small apartment, paid her rent and utilities, and made sure she had a safe place to live – not just temporarily, but for the rest of her life. He even enlisted the help of Renée Zellweger, who helped furnish the apartment so it would feel warm, comfortable, and truly hers.
For the first time in decades, Mimi had a door she could lock. A bed of her own. Privacy. Dignity.
But Galifianakis didn’t stop there.
To him, Mimi wasn’t someone to hide away – she was someone to celebrate. He famously brought her as his date to major red carpet premieres, including The Hangover Part II and Part III. Dressed up and smiling, Mimi walked those carpets not as a charity case, but as an honored guest — treated with the same respect as any A-list celebrity.

Mimi lived in her apartment until her passing in 2021, at the age of 95. Her story, and her friendship with Galifianakis, was later preserved in the 2015 documentary Queen Mimi, ensuring her life would not be forgotten.
