The parents of the little girl who lost her life in a heartbreaking cruise accident five years ago are no longer together.
Public records confirm that Alan and Kimberly Wiegand divorced in September 2024. In July 2019, their 18-month-old daughter Chloe lost her life while the family took a Royal Caribbean cruise to Puerto Rico.
Chloe fell from an open window when her grandfather, Salvatore Anello, raised her up to what he believed was a closed pane of glass. Believing the window was sealed , something Chloe loved to tap on at her brother’s hockey games , he put her near it, not realizing the pane was open while the ship was docked.
Since then, life has taken the Wiegands in different directions.
Kimberly, an attorney, is now dating Dustin Wilson, an air-conditioning repairman and father of three, who has reportedly served time for burglary-related charges.
Alan, a police officer in South Bend, Indiana, was awarded a Lifesaving Award earlier this year after helping revive an unconscious 18-year-old.
The family isn’t saying anything publicly about the current situation.
Chloe was traveling with her parents, siblings and both sets of grandparents when the accident took place. The Wiegands subsequently sued Royal Caribbean, claiming that unsafe window design and lack of adequate warnings contributed to the tragedy. Authorities originally claimed Chloe slipped from her grandfather’s hands, while the family’s attorney insisted he mistakenly believed a clear, open window was closed. The case was eventually withdrawn in December 2023.
