When someone recently asked Jay Leno whether he planned to find a girlfriend now that his wife has dementia, the question stopped him cold. Not because it was complicated – but because, to him, the answer was painfully obvious. He already has a girlfriend. He’s had her for more than four decades. She’s the woman he married in 1980.
That woman is Mavis Leno, and for 45 years, it has always been just the two of them.
They never had children. They built a quiet, deeply private life together while Jay’s career unfolded in public. In 2024, Leno shared publicly that his wife is living with dementia – a diagnosis that changes everything, not just for the person experiencing it, but for the one who loves them most.
