CAST AND CREW GIVE ERIC DANE A 10-MINUTE STANDING OVATION FOR ALS SCENE – THE SAME DISEASE HE IS FACING IN REAL LIFE.

Actor Eric Dane is gaining critical acclaim for his powerful turn in Brilliant Minds, in which he takes on the role of Matthew, a firefighter and 9/11 hero diagnosed with ALS — the same disease he has been fighting in real life. In the series, Matthew grapples with how to break the news to his wife and daughter about his disease. One emotionally charged scene in which he records a message seeking help left the entire crew standing and applauding him for almost 10 minutes.

The creator of the show called Dane’s performance “brave, honest, and unlike anything any of us had ever seen”. Co-star Mädchen Amick declared herself “honored” to have gotten to work with him and thanked him for helping bring attention to ALS, a progressive disease with no cure.

The episode explores how families adapt to life’s constant changes, showing both heartbreak and resilience in the face of devastating news. Filmed in October, this marks Dane’s first role since he publicly shared his diagnosis in April.

Off-camera, Dane is working with the organization I AM ALS to push for significant research funding and recently met with leaders in Washington to push for a cause.

The biggest thing he wants now is to see his daughters Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13, grow up – and never give up.
