Rumer Willis has spoken for the first time about the difficulty of describing her father Bruce Willis’ condition as he lives with frontotemporal dementia. During her Instagram Q&A, someone inquired how he was doing, and Rumer said it is never a simple question. She explained that individuals with FTD all experience it differently and the idea of “doing well” doesn’t really apply the way most people expect.
Still, Rumer shared that, for where he is in his illness, her dad is “okay.” She said she often struggles to answer because the usual meaning of “healthy” no longer fits their reality. Instead, she focuses on what matters most: she is deeply grateful she can still sit with him, hold him, and show him love.
Some days, Bruce does not recognize her – but she knows he still feels her presence. And that connection, even wordless, is everything to her. She said there’s still a small spark of her dad shining through, a quiet sign that he feels the love she brings into the room. These visits to him, accompanied by her daughter Louetta, have become treasured for her. Those gentle moments remind her of how lucky she is that he’s still here, still capable of giving and receiving love in his own way.
